‘ What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops’. Matthew 10:27
For those of you who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s The Tremeloes were one of the groups whose songs you will surely remember. I don’t know how many of you will remember their song called ‘Silence is Golden’? I must admit is was one of my favourites. However, in light of our Gospel reading this weekend silence is anything but golden.
Jesus may have cautioned silence after certain healings; but when it came to sharing his teaching, his command was clear; broadcast the good news. At times, this was what the disciples did not want to do for fear of reprisals. However, the gospel transcends time and therefore there is never a best or worst time – it is always a good time to spread the good news through action or words.
If we make a quality decision to spread the gospel, then God will honour it by giving us opportunities, courage and strength to do it. Let God have his way, and take time to listen to his words, praying for discernment and wisdom, and then follow where he leads. He knows what he is about, because it is his gospel you’re dealing with.
With every blessing
