Yes… we think there might be a couple of mice hiding in St Mary’s church but rarely making an appearance.

Over the weekend of 26-27 September, there are going to be loads of our furry friends in church for you to discover.   There will be a trail to follow to find hidden ‘pieces of cheese’.   Look out for the Circus Mice, Mice in School, in Hospital in a garden and lots of other places too.

There will be cheese and chocolate refreshments.   Donations will be gratefully received.   Admission is free.

St Mary’s Church bell ringers are delighted to be participating in Doncaster’s Heritage Open Days celebrations, part of a wider national festival.

As part of the celebrations, we are marking a very special milestone – the 300th birthday of three of the church’s magnificent bells.  We warmly invite you to climb the 94 steps of St Mary’s historic tower and discover a part of the church that is rarely seen by the public.

To book your Bell Tower Tour – please email: stmarystickhillbellringers@gmail.com

Your visit begins in the ringing room where you can learn about the fascinating art of change ringing and meet the band of ringers who continue this centuries-old tradition.  You’ll have the chance to see the historic carillon and the church’s impressive clock mechanism.

For those who wish to venture a little higher, the bell chamber offers the chance to stand alongside the bells themselves.   Here you can admire these remarkable instruments at close quarters and see the clock hammers that strike the bells to mark the passing of time.

Back on the ground you can have a go on our model bell.

CHURCH DONE DIFFERENTLY Sunday 6 September 4.00pm

Our next Church Done Differently service takes place on Sunday 6 September at 4.00pm when we will be celebrating creation.

This type of service is very informal – we sit around tables, cafe-style at the back of church – and is designed for every age group from babes in arms to pensioners.  We find that children come with their parents and sometimes with their grandparents as well, so all are welcome.

The service lasts around 40 minutes and is packed with engaging things for children to do.   We include a treasure hunt to find things hidden in church, as well as live music, puppets, craft activities and refreshments throughout.

We hope you might like to join us.
